Dos and Don'ts of Cleaning Your Car's Interior

My car has been long overdue for some spring cleaning, so today I dedicated a decent portion of my day to making its insides sparkle. Apparently, I don't undertake this chore often enough. For those of you who are like me, here's some tips to keep in mind.

Do: Use Windex to clean the inside of your windshield.
Don't: Wait a year between cleanings. By that point you are just spreading around dirt.

Do: Spot clean upholstery and carpet with your favorite upholstery or carpet cleaner.
Don't: Overdo it on the Resolve or you will be spending your whole afternoon getting soap residue out of your floor mats.

Do: Use your trunk to store things you cart around and use on a semi-daily basis.
Don't: Use your trunk to store the six photo albums from your year in Cambodia that you still don't know what to do with.

Do:
Use a wet rag to wipe down your dashboard and sticky surfaces.
Don't: Ask what that sticky grime is in the corner of your cupholder.

Do: Save lost quarters for your next parking meter use.
Don't: Vacuum up spare change with the mega sweepers at the car wash.

I love this post! My car during undergrad and last year was absolutely horrible! I loaded it up for a summer internship in Seattle the summer after junior year; I didn't get around to unpacking it 'til a year after I graduated. And I only cleared out the diet soda cans from the passenger seat when they were threatening to obscure seating entirely.

I'm sure your car isn't quite that bad, but good to know I'm not the only one who has a hard time remembering to keep the car sparkly clean.
